7730 | Competition for 2024 IAPH Sustainability Awards opens Thursday 22 Feb 2024 IAPH launched today its 2024 Sustainability Awards competition. We warmly encourage all member ports and associate members acting on behalf of regular member ports, to submit their sustainability projects and initiatives using the dedicated online form at the World Ports Sustainability Program (WPSP) website by 24 May. The most inspiring projects in each of the six Awards categories; infrastructure, digitalisation, climate and energy, community building, environmental care, and health safety and security, will be awarded during a prestigious dedicated ceremony to take place at the gala dinner of the World Ports Conference in Hamburg on 9 October. The robust evaluation process for all candidate projects will initiate over the summer period, consisting of an initial assessment by our jury of experts against the Awards’ evaluation criteria, followed by a public vote on the WPSP website. 7731 | Port Endeavor played in Dutch ports Thursday 22 Feb 2024 Two Port Endeavor training sessions took place over the week of 5 February in the Netherlands at the ports of Scheveningen and Rotterdam. On 5 February, IAPH policy and IMO liaison officer Rhona Macdonald, together with IAPH technical director Antonis Michail, facilitated a Port Endeavor training session for the core managing team of Scheveningen Harbor followed by a workshop to set the foundations of the port’s vision on sustainability. On 8 February, Antonis again, together with IAPH communications director Victor Shieh, and IAPH director business development, Nick Blackmore facilitated a second Port Endeavor training for the fifty plus managers of the sustainability department of the Port of Rotterdam (pictured). The gameplay was followed by a dedicated workshop where participants were asked to address real Port of Rotterdam challenges using the Port Endeavor set-up and approach. 7732 | Final call for Harbor Café sessions on Red Sea crisis Thursday 22 Feb 2024 The first global IAPH Harbor Café of the year will focus on the ongoing crisis in the Red Sea and the strategies deployed by ports and key stakeholders to foster resilience in the face of persistent disruptions. This discussion will serve as an appetizer for the theme of this year’s IAPH World Ports Conference, which focuses on risk and resilience. 7737 | IAPH engages Indian membership in Mumbai Thursday 22 Feb 2024 In the last two weeks, IAPH’s representative for India Ennarasu Karunesan attended both the EXIM BHP-CTL international conference last week as speaker as well as joining IAPH president Jens Meier at the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce reception which took place last night in Mumbai, organised by Hamburg Port Marketing. At the BHP-CTL conference, Ennarasu joined a panel on 15 February which included the chair of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and other senior industry figures on best global practices and sustainability in cargo and multimodal logistics. JNPA also hosted a delegation from IAPH member Hamburg Port Authority this week, which was headed up by IAPH president Jens Meier. Jens also met with the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways during his trip as well as with the chairman of the Indian Ports Association Rajiv Jalota, who is also chairman of Mumbai Port Authority.
